David Martin Selected as Metro Tech Superintendent and CEO, Marking a First for Black Leadership Across Oklahoma CareerTech

David Martin has been selected as the next Superintendent and CEO of Metro Technology Centers, marking a major leadership moment for the institution and the wider Oklahoma CareerTech system. The appointment, approved during a special board meeting on April 6, will take effect on July 1, 2026. Martin will serve as the ninth superintendent and will succeed outgoing leader Aaron Collins.

Notably, Martin’s selection also introduces the first Black leadership at this level across both Metro Tech and the entire Oklahoma CareerTech system. His appointment reflects years of dedication, experience, and impact within the organization, positioning him to guide its next phase of growth.

David Martin Leadership Journey at Metro Tech

David Martin brings more than 25 years of experience within Metro Tech, making him one of the institution’s most seasoned leaders. Over the years, he has built a strong reputation for driving student success, improving workforce pathways, and strengthening internal systems.

Currently serving as Deputy Superintendent, Martin has led across key areas including instruction, operations, and human resources. As a result, he has developed a deep understanding of how the organization functions at every level. This experience is expected to play a major role as he transitions into the top leadership position.

Key Programs and Workforce Development Initiatives

Throughout his career, Martin has focused on expanding access to education and aligning programs with workforce needs. For example, he led the launch of Metro Tech’s first Multimedia Journalism program through a $150,000 grant, opening new opportunities for students interested in media careers.

In addition, he helped introduce cosmetology programs at Douglass High School to reduce long waiting lists. He also supported the expansion of barbering programs, bringing enrollment close to full capacity. These efforts highlight his focus on practical skills and career readiness, which remain central to Metro Tech’s mission.

Looking ahead, Martin has made it clear that his focus will remain on growth, access, and community impact. He emphasized the importance of building on Metro Tech’s strong foundation while creating more opportunities for students.

“I am deeply honored to be selected to serve as Superintendent and CEO of Metro Tech,” Martin said. “This institution has shaped my career and my purpose, and I am committed to ensuring it continues to transform lives through education and workforce opportunity.”

Education Background and Professional Recognition

David Martin’s academic background reflects his commitment to leadership and continuous learning. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Langston University and a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Central Oklahoma. In addition, he has earned an Oklahoma superintendent certification.

He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Education degree at East Central University, further strengthening his expertise. Alongside his academic achievements, Martin has received the Arch Alexander Award from the Oklahoma Association for Career and Technical Education, recognizing his contributions to CareerTech program development.
