Grace Wales Bonner Appointed as Hermès Menswear Creative Director
Grace Wales Bonner has taken a groundbreaking step in fashion leadership. The British-Jamaican designer has been named menswear creative director at Hermès, one of the world’s most prestigious fashion houses. Her appointment marks the first time a Black woman has led design at a major European luxury brand.
The announcement came from Hermès International following the departure of Véronique Nichanian, who held the role for 37 years. “I am deeply honored,” Wales Bonner shared. “Joining such a lineage of artisans and creators is a dream for me.”
Her new role positions her at the forefront of global fashion innovation, bridging tradition and modern creativity at one of France’s oldest luxury houses.

Her first collection for Hermès menswear is expected to debut later this year, and anticipation is already high across the fashion world.
From London Roots to Global Recognition
Born in London to a British mother and Jamaican father, Wales Bonner graduated from Central Saint Martins before launching her own label in 2014. Her designs quickly gained recognition for their intellectual depth and artistic precision.
She has earned major honors, including the LVMH Prize in 2016 and a British Fashion Award. Beyond her label, she has collaborated with Adidas and Dior, and curated exhibitions at New York’s Museum of Modern Art—further solidifying her influence beyond the runway.

Wales Bonner joins a select group of Black designers leading in global luxury, following in the footsteps of the late Virgil Abloh at Louis Vuitton and Aurora James of Brother Vellies.
