Winsome Neresa Robinson, affectionately known as Anne, left an indelible mark on Coventry’s history as one of the city’s first black barmaids.

Her remarkable journey from Jamaica to the heart of Coventry exemplified resilience, independence, and an unwavering determination to pave her path.

Born on March 14, 1951, in Westmoreland, Jamaica, Winsome’s life took an extraordinary turn when she arrived in Coventry at the tender age of fifteen. Embracing the city as her new home, she embodied the values of perseverance and self-reliance.

Trailblazer in the Hospitality Industry

In the 1970s and 1980s, Winsome made history by breaking barriers and becoming one of Coventry’s first black barmaids.

Her roles as a bar manager at iconic establishments like Park Lane and Mr. Georges earned her recognition for her exceptional service and warm hospitality.

Celebrating a Trailblazer’s Life

On Friday, June 7th, a funeral service will be held at the Cannon Hill Chapel in Canley Crematorium to honor Winsome’s remarkable life. All who knew her are warmly invited to attend and pay their respects, dressed in formal attire.
