A Historic Musical Takes Center Stage in Memphis
Memphis is welcoming a groundbreaking theatrical production this holiday season. Tymika Chambliss-Williams returns with Ms. Scroogeworth: A Christmas Musical, the first Black female–led reimagining of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. This milestone production premiered in December 2023 and is back for its 2025 mainstage season.
The show follows Ebony Scroogeworth, a successful businesswoman who has lost touch with love, family, and compassion. On Christmas morning, she meets the Timeweavers of her Past, Present, and Future, who guide her on a journey of reflection and transformation. The story blends traditional holiday themes with contemporary, community-driven perspectives.
“This production reflects the cultural identity and lived experiences of the community it comes from,” Chambliss-Williams explained. “It offers our perspective on a familiar story.”
A Vibrant Musical Experience
Ms. Scroogeworth combines original music, live vocals, and new choreography, creating a fresh take on a classic tale. The score draws from gospel, soul, and theatrical traditions, highlighting Memphis’ rich artistic heritage.
Audiences can expect a high-energy performance with innovative staging that immerses them in the world of Ebony Scroogeworth. The collaboration of local Memphis artists ensures the production feels authentic and rooted in the community.
In addition to the show, the Scroogeworth Holiday Market will showcase local artisans and small businesses during the performance weekends, offering a festive experience beyond the theater.

The musical will be staged at Riverside Missionary Baptist Church, Memphis, Tennessee, with the following schedule:
- Saturday, December 20, 2025 — 2:00 p.m. & 7:00 p.m.
- Sunday, December 21, 2025 — 5:00 p.m.
