Historic Roselle Cannabis Dispensary Opening Led by Janna Williams
A new cannabis dispensary in Roselle, New Jersey is drawing attention for its purpose and leadership. The store, Roll Models, opened on May 16 and is led by Janna Williams. She is recognized as the first Black female disabled veteran to open a cannabis retail dispensary in the state.
The grand opening brought together community members, including the Roselle Borough Council and Mayor Donald Shaw. The store sits at 731 E. St. Georges Street and enters a growing cannabis market in New Jersey with a strong focus on healing and community support.
Although cannabis dispensaries are becoming more common in the state, this opening stands out because of its mission. Williams is focused on removing stigma around cannabis use and mental health challenges, especially among veterans.
Janna Williams Shares PTSD Journey and Healing Through Cannabis
Janna Williams is a disabled Air Force veteran who lives with PTSD. She shared that her early experiences with treatment in the VA system led her to seek alternative ways to manage her mental health.
“I am a disabled veteran, I suffer with PTSD,” Williams told TAPinto Roselle. She explained that she was previously offered opioids but chose to explore more holistic approaches to healing instead.
Over time, Williams discovered that cannabis helped her function better in daily life. She said the transition supported her ability to care for her children and manage anxiety while rebuilding her life.
Vets4U Nonprofit Work and Veteran Support Mission
Beyond her business, Williams is also the founder of Vets4U, a nonprofit that provides food, clothing, and support resources to military families in need. The organization has served communities in Union and Essex County for years.
Her work with veterans goes beyond advocacy. It reflects a long standing commitment to supporting those who often struggle in silence after service. Williams said, “Helping others is really what helps me get through and not focusing so much on my stuff.”
This mission continues inside her dispensary. Even the company that supplies products is veteran owned, strengthening her goal of supporting military communities through every part of her work.
From Air Force Service to Community Leadership in Roselle
Originally from the Tampa Bay area, Williams moved to New Jersey after serving in the Air Force. She has also contributed to local leadership by serving on the Roselle Board of Education and the planning board.
Her path to opening Roll Models began through a simple community conversation in Pinho’s Bakery. That moment helped turn her idea into a real storefront in Roselle, showing how local connections shaped her business journey.
Williams also shared how personal challenges shaped her determination. As a single mother of three, she said she pushed through difficulties because she believed the opportunity was bigger than herself.
Roll Models Cannabis Dispensary Focuses on Healing and Purpose
Roll Models was created with a focus on healing, education, and reducing stigma around cannabis use and mental health. Williams wants the space to support people dealing with PTSD and other emotional challenges.
She explained that her mission is rooted in lived experience. “For many years, I suffered in silence,” she said, adding that she now wants to help others find relief and support.
Through Roll Models, Williams blends business with advocacy. Her goal is to create a space where healing, community, and purpose come together in a meaningful way.
