Hutto, TX – In a significant milestone for the local community, Eric and Tonya Thomas have opened the first Black-owned Teapioca Lounge franchise in Hutto, Texas.
The grand opening celebration, scheduled for Saturday, August 10th, promises to be a vibrant event that showcases the couple’s entrepreneurial spirit and their commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Pioneering a New Path in the Boba Tea Landscape
The Thomas’ journey to owning the Teapioca Lounge franchise is a testament to their resilience and entrepreneurial spirit. After Eric’s layoff from his corporate software sales job in 2022, the couple saw an opportunity to take control of their career paths and bring a unique business to their community.
“I always had an entrepreneurial spirit. Then I got laid off from Netsuite in 2022. So, I decided to put my career in my own hands,” Eric stated.
Inspired by their granddaughter’s love for boba tea, the couple researched the market and landed on the Teapioca franchise, determined to introduce this popular drink to the Black community in Hutto.
Hutto: A Community-Focused Destination
The decision to open the Teapioca Lounge in Hutto was strategic, as the Thomas’ recognized the city’s community-oriented nature and its potential for growth. Tonya’s previous residency in Hutto and the city’s proximity to the local high school and the nearby Samsung facility further solidified their choice.
“We felt like we were diving into something unknown. It was interesting but not scary because we knew we were led here. It was also interesting learning and working with other cultures,” Tonya added.
Embracing Diversity and Cultural Exploration
The Thomas’ vision for the Teapioca Lounge extends beyond serving delicious boba tea. They aim to introduce this unique Asian-inspired beverage to the Black community in Hutto, encouraging them to explore new cultural experiences.
“We want to introduce boba to the Black community more. We’ve had some come in who were curious and have returned since then. It’s important to try new things and to help people branch out.”
Grand Opening Celebration: A Vibrant Community Event
The grand opening celebration on August 10th promises to be a lively event that brings the Hutto community together. Attendees can expect a ribbon cutting with the Hutto Chamber of Commerce, a Mariachi band with folklore dancers, and cheerleaders from the local high school. Free drinks and special offers will be available throughout the day, making it a truly memorable occasion.
