Muscle Up Mommy Leads New Era in Maternal Health
Detroit native Mykel B. Davis is reshaping how mothers experience wellness and technology. Through her company, Muscle Up Mommy, she has launched the first Black-owned wearable breast pump brand. The innovation is designed to give modern mothers more comfort, flexibility, and control in their postpartum journey.
Davis is bringing her global mission back to the city where she was raised. By combining femtech with maternal health, she is creating new opportunities for mothers while showing that Detroit continues to be a hub for innovation.
“Coming back to Detroit isn’t just about sharing my story—it’s about showing mothers, women, and entrepreneurs that we belong in technology, innovation, and leadership,” Davis explained.
From Detroit Roots to Global Vision
Davis grew up in Detroit before studying Journalism at Bowling Green State University and Business at Michigan State University. What began as a postpartum fitness brand has now evolved into a global wellness movement.
Her company, Muscle Up Mommy, has relaunched its online store and created the MUMFEST Wellness Festival, along with a new Social Series during Houston’s largest tech week. Each of these efforts reflects her drive to bridge the gap between health, technology, and community wellness.
Davis says she wants to “pour back” into the community that raised her by creating resources and representation for women, especially mothers, in spaces where they are often overlooked.
Wearable Breast Pump Innovation
The new J35 Wearable Breast Pump, available for pre-order, is priced at $229 and ships October 10, 2025. Unlike traditional pumps, it allows mothers to move freely, blending practicality with privacy.
By introducing the first Black-owned brand in this market, Davis is making both a cultural and technological statement. Muscle Up Mommy is not only changing maternal health but also setting a precedent for more inclusive innovation in femtech.
Spotlight at the Digital Empowerment Summit
On Friday, September 26, 2025, at 1 pm, Davis will headline a fireside chat at the Digital Empowerment Summit in Detroit. She will appear alongside Alexa Turnage, Founder of Black Tech Saturdays.
The free event is open to the public, giving attendees access to innovators and leaders shaping the future of technology. Davis will also meet with local leaders, build partnerships, and share her story in media appearances throughout her return home.
A Company Built on Empowerment
Founded by Davis, Muscle Up Mommy began as a fitness brand for new mothers and has grown into a femtech leader. Today, it focuses on maternal health, wearable technology, and community-driven wellness.
“This city raised me,” Davis said. “Now I want to give back by creating access and resources for mothers and women who deserve to be seen in innovation.”
Her return to Detroit, paired with the launch of this groundbreaking breast pump, shows both resilience and forward vision. It reflects Detroit’s spirit of creativity and strength while reshaping what’s possible in maternal health.
