Crystal Davis Wins Plymouth Mayoral Race With 364 Votes, Ushering in a New Era as the Town’s First Black Woman Mayor

Crystal Davis Wins Mayoral Race in Plymouth With Strong Community Support

Plymouth, North Carolina has a new leader — and a new chapter in its history. Crystal Davis has been elected as the town’s first Black woman mayor after earning 364 votes in a tight three-way race. Davis defeated incumbent Mayor Brian Roth, who received 301 votes, and challenger Mark Sexton, who garnered 173 votes.

“I’m an average person, but I’ve made history in Plymouth,” Davis said after her win. Her words echoed the pride and emotion felt across the small Eastern Carolina town on election night.

A Shift Toward Community-Centered Leadership

Davis currently serves as a town councilmember, where she’s known for her dedication to local growth and community development. Now, she says her victory represents a shift in leadership — one that prioritizes the voices of everyday citizens.

“We know that it’s a shift in power, so we want to move from what is typical and shift back to regular people,” she explained.

Her supporters celebrated at Casa Garcia Mexican Restaurant, where excitement filled the room. “She is a fighter and I’m gonna stand right behind her,” said Terri Pitt, one of her longtime supporters. Plymouth Councilmember Donsenia Teel also praised Davis, saying she would bring “energy, knowledge, power, and youthfulness” to her new role.

Record of Service and Results for Plymouth

As a councilmember, Davis has already helped shape Plymouth’s future. She played a key role in attracting new businesses, improving public spaces, and supporting local workers.

“We just work diligently around the clock for the people,” Davis said. “Those are things that haven’t been done in 20 years, and so the best is yet to come.”

Her leadership has been marked by hands-on involvement and an ability to deliver progress in areas that had long been stagnant. Her new role as mayor positions her to expand on those achievements and bring fresh energy to the town’s government.

A Victory for the People of Plymouth

Throughout her campaign, Davis emphasized that her win wasn’t just her own. She credited her supporters and voters who believed in her message of change and unity.

“I couldn’t have done it without the voters, so I didn’t win — Plymouth won,” she said.

Davis will officially take office in December. As she prepares to lead, her election stands as a milestone not only for the town’s political landscape but also for representation and community empowerment in Eastern North Carolina.
