Television Success, Matlock, Walker Texas Ranger, and Legacy
In 1988, Gilyard joined the cast of Matlock. He played a key supporting role for five years. The series gave him long term visibility on television.
Later, he moved to CBS and starred in Walker, Texas Ranger. He acted alongside Chuck Norris as a former football player turned lawman. The role expanded his popularity with TV audiences.
Clarence Gilyard Jr. died on November 28, 2022 at age 66. His career left a lasting mark across film, television, and theater. He is remembered for range, discipline, and steady craft.
