Las Vegas Aces Star Achieves Unprecedented Feat
A’ja Wilson just made WNBA history in a way no player ever has before. The Las Vegas Aces forward became the first player in league history to score 30 points and grab 20 rebounds in a single game.
Wilson’s monster performance came in a 96-84 home victory over the Connecticut Sun. She finished with 32 points, 20 rebounds, and five assists, dominating on both ends of the floor. The two-time MVP celebrated her latest birthday just two days before this record-breaking night.
Aces Extend Winning Streak Behind Wilson’s Dominance
The Aces have now won four straight games, improving their record to 18-14. Wilson wasn’t alone in this win—Jackie Young added 21 points, while Jewell Loyd and Dana Evans combined for 22 off the bench.
Meanwhile, the struggling Connecticut Sun fell to 5-25 this season. Despite their efforts, they had no answer for Wilson’s historic night. Her 20 rebounds were a career-high, and her scoring outburst kept the Sun at bay all game.
Wilson Joins Elite WNBA Scoring Company
With this performance, Wilson tied Tina Charles for the most 30-point, 15-rebound games in WNBA history (six each). She also moved into a tie for third place (with Breanna Stewart) for most 30-point games (30) in league history.
Only Angel McCoughtry (32) and Diana Taurasi (54) have more. Wilson’s latest milestone adds to her growing legacy as one of the greatest players the league has ever seen.
Historic Night Follows Hall of Fame Honor
Just before this game, Wilson received another major honor. Her alma mater, the University of South Carolina, announced she’ll be inducted into their Athletics Hall of Fame in October.
The ceremony will take place on October 23, with a special recognition during South Carolina’s football game against Alabama two days later. Wilson’s historic WNBA performance only adds to what’s already been a legendary career.
What’s Next for Wilson and the Aces?
The Aces will look to keep their winning streak alive when they face the New York Liberty (20-11) on August 13. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. PT at Michelob ULTRA Arena.
If Wilson keeps playing at this level, more records could soon fall. For now, she’s cemented her place in WNBA history—again.
