Wilson Makes History as Fastest to 5,000 Points
A’ja Wilson has done it again. The Las Vegas Aces superstar just became the fastest player in WNBA history to score 5,000 career points. She reached the milestone in only 238 games—faster than legends like Breanna Stewart (242 games) and Diana Taurasi (243 games).
Wilson hit the mark in an 85-59 win over the Connecticut Sun, finishing with 22 points, eight rebounds, four assists, four steals, and three blocks. Her all-around dominance proves why she’s a three-time MVP. “One of the reasons they drafted me was to score the ball in many, many different ways,” Wilson said after the game. “To be the quickest, the fastest [to 5,000], it’s a blessing.”
A’ja Wilson Joins Elite WNBA Company
Not only did Wilson hit 5,000 points, but she also joined an exclusive club. She’s now the sixth WNBA player ever with 5,000+ points, 2,000+ rebounds, 500+ assists, 400+ blocks, and 200+ steals. Even more impressive? She’s the youngest and fastest to reach those numbers.
Her consistency is unmatched. Wilson has scored in double figures in her last 62 regular-season games—the seventh-longest streak in league history. If she keeps it up for three more games, she’ll tie Arike Ogunbowale for sixth place.
From Rookie Sensation to WNBA Legend
Wilson was the No. 1 pick in the 2018 WNBA Draft after a stellar college career at South Carolina. She won Rookie of the Year, then claimed MVP honors in 2020, 2022, and 2024. At just 27, she’s already one of the greatest players ever.
Diana Taurasi, the league’s all-time leading scorer (10,646 points), played 20 seasons. Wilson is on pace to challenge records much sooner. With her scoring, defense, and leadership, she’s rewriting WNBA history.
What’s Next for Wilson and the Aces?
The Aces improved to 7-7 with the win, while the struggling Sun fell to 2-13. Wilson’s milestone is a bright spot in a season where she continues to dominate. If she stays healthy, more records will surely fall.
For now, Wilson is focused on winning. “I just want to keep getting better,” she said. If her past performances are any indication, the best is yet to come.
