Samuel Floyd (1940-1987) etched his name in history as the first Black Principal and Assistant Principal of Stockbridge High School.

Roots in Montgomery, Alabama
Born and raised in Montgomery, Alabama, Floyd’s affinity for mathematics and cooking blossomed at a young age.
His love for numbers led him to pursue a degree in Mathematics and Science at Alabama State University, where he actively participated in various student organizations, serving as Vice President of the Student Council, a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., Vice President of the Science and Math Club, and Assistant Superintendent of the Sunday School.
After graduating in the early 1960s, Floyd embarked on a new chapter, relocating to Henry County, Georgia, with his wife, Cecelia, and their twin sons. The family later welcomed a daughter, solidifying their roots in the community.
A Pioneering Educator
Floyd’s career in education began as a teacher and football coach at Westside Training School in McDonough. Following the integration of schools, he transitioned to Stockbridge Senior High School, where he continued teaching Mathematics and coaching football.

Floyd’s dedication and outstanding performance paved the way for his promotion to the position of Assistant Principal at Stockbridge High School, a groundbreaking achievement for a Black educator at the time.
