Vegan Patisserie with Strong Social Impact
Considered amongst many as some of “the best pastries in the world,” this gourmet vegan patisserie first made headlines with its strong social impact and outstanding products to back its mission.
Cloudy Donut Co. is most famous for its pillowy soft cloud-like donuts.
Breaking Barriers in Brooklyn Heights
Cloudy Donut Co. is a brand of many firsts – it is NYC’s first 100% vegan donut store and the first Black-owned food and beverage business in Brooklyn Heights and Nolita.
With over 50 flavors, this outpost is a tourist haven known for its brown butter chocolate chip donuts, apple pie cinnamon rolls, and sweet potato pound cake.
“Known for limited quantity with an emphasis on storytelling, beginning with the design of the spaces to the curation of the music, merchandise and weekly flavor profile; everything is created with intention.”
Founder’s Journey from Incarceration to Entrepreneurship
Founder Derrick Faulcon, a formerly incarcerated individual of 11 years, opened Cloudy Donut Co. with the mission of promoting community and inclusivity.
His unique business model has already shown immense success with long lines out the door and posts about the mouthwatering vegan donuts on social media.
“I spent 11 years total of my life in prison,” Faulcon shared. “I came home and started my own business.”
Reversing Gentrification and Promoting Diversity
As the brand seeks to “reverse gentrify,” Faulcon and the company’s shop operator, Zewiditu Ruffin, chose to open shops in predominantly white areas.
By introducing their delicious vegan donuts to a new market, Cloudy Donut Co. is not only promoting diversity and inclusion but also creating a luxurious and harmonious world of Black luxury.
“We could’ve opened months ago, but I wanted to open on a historical day which is not only monumental for Black People, but all people.”
With its unique flavors, strong social impact, and commitment to diversity, Cloudy Donut Co. is a true trailblazer in the world of vegan pastries.
