Dr. Sarah Aba-Afari, a trailblazing Divisional Police Commander in Ghana, West Africa, has etched her name in history by becoming the first-ever Black female police officer to achieve the remarkable feat of holding three Ph.D.s.
Her journey began in 2017 when she earned her first doctorate after years of unwavering commitment to self-education and personal development. At that time, she secured her position as the inaugural female African police officer to attain a doctorate degree.
On the 14th of October, 2023, Dr. Aba-Afari added two more Ph.D.s to her impressive list of accomplishments. She received a Doctorate Degree Award in Ministry (DMin Honoris Causa) and a Doctorate Degree in Christian Education (DCEd Honoris Causa) from the prestigious Holy Spirit Bible University in the USA.
This extraordinary achievement solidified her status as the first Black woman to hold three doctorate degrees. In an interview following the awards ceremony, Dr. Aba-Afari shared insights into her motivation for pursuing higher education.
She explained that her academic endeavors serve as a means to enhance her problem-solving skills, enabling her to better fulfill her pivotal role in law enforcement and provide essential protection to her community.
“’Knowledge is power’ as it is said. Knowledge is therefore, information and the requisite information is empowerment. Being a Police Officer with versatile background, I seek knowledge to enhance my capacity in problem-solving skills so I can offer the appropriate protection needs of the community I serve. To be effective in my quest to enforce the law, I adopt to proactive policing which is premised on scientific knowledge in crime management,” she said.
Her commitment to continuous learning and personal development is a groundbreaking example of the transformative power of education in the field of law enforcement.
