Jemison Brings Extensive Sports Management Experience To Role
On January 25th, the Kansas City Current announced the appointment of Raven Jemison as the new team president ahead of its inaugural season at CPKC Stadium in 2024. Jemison becomes the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) club’s first Black president.
“I am so excited to come to Kansas City to work with Angie and Chris and this club,” said Jemison on her hiring. “They have a vision and desire to make this the best women’s football club in the world.”
Jemison joins Kansas City after serving as Executive Vice President of Business Operations for the 2021 NBA Champion Milwaukee Bucks. Her versatile sports management background also includes executive roles across the NHL, MLB, and NFL.
Jemison To Lead Business Operations, Stadium Progress
As club president, Jemison will oversee all aspects of business operations for the Current, which is co-owned by Patrick Mahomes, wife Brittany, and founders Chris and Angie Long.
Her arrival comes at a pivotal moment as Kansas City prepares to move into CPKC Stadium for the 2024 NWSL season. The venue will be America’s first soccer-specific stadium built exclusively for a women’s professional team.
“She has incredible experience and brings a depth of perspective,” said co-owner Chris Long on Jemison’s diverse sports leadership. With Jemison at the helm, the Current aims to become a world-class franchise on and off the pitch.
Hire Aligns With Club’s Commitment To Diversity
The Kansas City Current was founded in 2020 with the core values of community, equity, and inclusion. The appointment of the franchise’s first Black president reinforces those principles.
“We believe Raven is a critical ingredient as we look to grow the Current’s business and maximize its operation,” Long stated. Along with her vast executive expertise, Jemison also brings a fresh cultural perspective to Kansas City’s vision for the future.
Jemison succeeds outgoing president Allison Howard, who helped guide the Current in its early stages. Now under Jemison’s leadership, the club heads into a new era already on the rise.
