Chioma Nnadi, a veteran journalist and podcaster, has been tapped to lead editorial content at British Vogue.
The move makes Nnadi the first Black woman to assume the role, which is currently being held by Edward Enninful, the first Black man to head the publication.
In a statement, Nnadi said she is “beyond excited and honored” to be assuming the role. Prior to the announcement, she led Vogue Digital as its editor-in-chief and led coverage of major fashion events, including the Met Gala.
In addition to her leadership positions, she also maintained her art as a writer, penning popular feature stories of cover stars, including Rihanna, Cara Delevingne and Erykah Badu. For 13 years, she served as a writer and news director for the publication and currently co-hosts Vogue’s podcast, The Run-Through.
“As someone who was born and raised in London, the energy of the city – its boundary-pushing style and creative scene – has shaped the way I look at the world,” Nnadi said in a statement on Monday. “Now, more than ever, it feels like a moment to look beyond borders while also celebrating the broad scope of what it means to be British.”
She added: “I’m looking forward to engaging a loyal and inspired digital community that is energized by our access, point of view, and storytelling.”
Anna Wintour, Vogue’s chief content officer and global editorial director, stated that part of why Nnadi was hired for the role was because of her impeccable reputation adding that she was “beloved among her colleagues.”
The fashionista is “an editor and writer with an impeccable reputation – both here and in the fashion industry at large,” Wintour said.
“I’m so grateful to Edward Enninful for everything he’s accomplished at British Vogue, and we’re all looking forward to a productive and creative relationship with him in his new role,” Wintour added.
Enninful will remain as an advisor to the British title but next year, he will move into a newly-created position designed to grow Vogue’s global brand.
Congratulations, Chioma!
