Mia Love’s Battle with Brain Cancer Takes a Tough Turn
Mia Love, the first Black Republican woman elected to Congress, is bravely facing a worsening prognosis in her battle with aggressive brain cancer. Her daughter, Abigale Love, shared the news on Love’s X account, revealing that the cancer is no longer responding to treatment.
“Sadly, her cancer is no longer responding to treatment and the cancer is progressing,” Abigale wrote. The family and Love’s medical team have shifted focus to keeping her comfortable and surrounded by loved ones.
Mia Love’s Cancer Journey and Treatment
Love was diagnosed with glioblastoma brain cancer (GBM) in 2022. According to the MD Anderson Cancer Center, GBM has a grim outlook, with most patients surviving 1.5 to 2 years. Love exceeded her initial prognosis of 10-15 months.
Since August 2023, she received immunotherapy every three weeks as part of a clinical trial at The Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke University. Despite the tough road ahead, Love maintained a hopeful attitude, finding strength in her Mormon faith and science.
“I was looking for a cure in my faith and in science,” Love said in a May 2024 interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper. Her patriarchal blessing also promised a long and rewarding life, inspiring her to remain hopeful.
A Remarkable Career: From Congress to Media
Mia Love, now 49, represented Utah’s 4th Congressional District from 2015 to 2019. She made history as the first Black Republican woman in Congress, earning respect for her integrity and leadership.
After her time in Congress, Love joined CNN as a political commentator and appeared on ABC’s “The View.” Her career in public service and media amplified her voice, inspiring many, especially in the Black community.
Love’s Message of Hope to Others
Throughout her cancer journey, Love remained a beacon of hope. She shared her story publicly, aiming to uplift others battling cancer or facing life’s challenges.
“Whether you are facing a cancer diagnosis yourself, or fighting a different battle, there is hope!” she said in a Facebook post. She credited her faith and family for giving her strength and peace during this difficult time.
