She believes that coping skills should be part of the school curriculum to help students learn how to self-regulate and manage their emotions. Collins said, “As a nurse, I’ve received a lot of training in trauma-based care. My role is to be a catalyst for change, and if I can get the ball rolling, that would be a great legacy to leave.”
Her approach to student well-being is rooted in her professional background in nursing. She understands the importance of addressing the emotional and mental health needs of students, especially as they navigate the challenges of school life.
Collins’ Experience and Educational Background
Collins’ educational journey has been diverse and deeply connected to her work in healthcare. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Collins was among the student nurses who volunteered at the Boston Hope medical center. This experience solidified her dedication to improving community health and supporting those in need, values she continues to carry with her into her political career.
A Vision for Change and a Strong Legacy

As the first Black person elected to the School Committee, she aims to bring fresh perspectives to the table. She hopes her contributions will inspire future generations to get involved in public service and community leadership.
