Donna Robinson Appointed Cincinnati State’s First Black Woman Police Chief and Director of Public Safety

Donna Robinson has made history as the first Black woman to serve as Police Chief at Cincinnati State. On December 11, 2024, she officially assumed her role as the Chief of the Cincinnati State Police Department and Director of Public Safety. Elliot Isaac, Chief of Police and Director of Public Safety at the University of Cincinnati, called the appointment “truly special,” reflecting the significance of Robinson’s achievement. Her leadership is seen as a positive step forward, encouraging other women of color to pursue leadership roles in law enforcement.

Donna Robinson’s Legacy at the Cincinnati Police Department

Robinson’s law enforcement career spans more than three decades. She joined the Cincinnati Police Department (CPD) in 1990, beginning as a recruit. Over the years, she held various roles, including patrol officer, special investigator, district shift sergeant, and commander of the Public Relations Unit. Her rise through the ranks demonstrated her commitment to service and dedication to improving the community.

In addition to her extensive experience, Robinson is highly educated. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Eastern Kentucky University and a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice from Xavier University. Robinson also graduated from the prestigious FBI National Academy Program, further solidifying her qualifications.
