Naronda Wright made history this week. She became the first Black president of NAGAP, The Association for Graduate Enrollment Management. This happened on September 16, 2024. Wright brings a wealth of experience to her new role.
NAGAP Welcomes New Leadership with Diverse Background
Wright currently works at Georgia Southern University. She is the associate dean of graduate student services there. Before this, she was at Augusta University. There, she was the director of graduate admissions operations for two years.
Her journey in higher education is long. Wright spent 14 years at Georgia Southern as an administrative specialist. Now, she’s back at the same university in a leadership role.
From NAGAP Member to President: Wright’s Journey
Wright’s involvement with NAGAP isn’t new. She has been an active member for years. Before becoming president, she held other important positions. These included conference chair and vice president.
“I’m honored to lead NAGAP,” Wright said. “My goal is to bring fresh perspectives and drive positive change in graduate enrollment management.”
Education and Expertise: The Foundation of Leadership
Wright’s education prepared her well for this role. She got her bachelor’s degree from Columbia College of Missouri. Then, she earned a master’s in higher education administration from Georgia Southern University.
But she didn’t stop there. Wright went on to get her doctorate. She earned a Ph.D. in higher education administration from Clark Atlanta University.
Looking Ahead: Wright’s Vision for NAGAP
As the new president, Wright has big plans. She aims to increase diversity in graduate enrollment. Also, she wants to improve access to higher education for all students.
“We need to adapt to the changing landscape of education,” Wright explained. “NAGAP will lead the way in innovative enrollment strategies.”
Wright’s election marks a significant milestone for NAGAP. Her leadership promises to bring new ideas and progress to the organization.
