Cyntria Young Named First Black Principal at Stone High
A moving choir performance marked a powerful moment at Stone High School. Cyntria Young has now taken charge as the school’s principal, becoming the first Black person to hold that position in its history.
Young’s promotion from assistant principal represents more than a career step. For her, this moment signals hope, inclusion, and progress for the entire community.
“I’m honored to be the first African American principal at Stone High School… I absolutely will not be the last,” Young said.
Trailblazing With Purpose and Passion
Young brings years of experience to her new leadership role. She has served in school administration for some time, gaining the trust of students, staff, and parents.
This new title carries deep meaning. Young sees it as a chance to open doors for others. “I feel like I am a trailblazer,” she shared. “Blazing a path for students, for people who look like me—and even those who don’t.”
Her promotion sends a powerful message: leadership belongs to everyone.
A Legacy of Education Runs in the Family
Young’s passion for learning comes from her roots. Her mother and grandmother were both educators, and she’s continuing that tradition with pride.
She also values strong relationships with families. “I want parents to know that I have an open-door policy,” she said. “Come speak to me if you have concerns or want to help. I’m always available.”
Her connection with the community is built on mutual respect, trust, and a love for education.
Students See Hope in Young’s Appointment
Senior student Chimere Haley Wells was thrilled to see Young step into the principal’s office. “I’ve grown up with her and known her all my life,” Wells said.
But for Wells and many others, this moment goes beyond familiarity. “She’s setting her stone. A young Black girl in this community can now say, ‘I can be the next principal.’ She’s showing that Black people can do anything.”
Young’s new role has sparked motivation and pride among students, especially those who finally see themselves reflected in school leadership.
A School Year Filled With Prayer and Purpose
To welcome the school year, Young and her loved ones gathered at church to pray for safety, peace, and growth. The school year begins August 1, and it’s already filled with hope.
Surrounded by friends, family, and faith, Cyntria Young stands ready. Her leadership is already planting seeds of change for the future of Stone High School.
