Myles Rowe Dominates the Final Laps at Iowa
Myles Rowe made motorsport history on Saturday with a commanding performance at Iowa Speedway. He became the first Black driver to win an Indy NXT race after overtaking Dennis Hauger on Lap 62 of the 75-lap race.
Rowe showed precision and nerve as he held the lead until the end, crossing the finish line ahead of Hauger, Salvador de Alba, and Caio Collet. It was a bold move that paid off and marked a career highlight in Rowe’s second Indy NXT season.
A Race Filled With Speed and Strategy
The early part of the race was all about Hauger. The rookie led the first 61 laps and even clocked the fastest lap at just under 19.5 seconds, hitting a speed of 165.571 mph. But Rowe’s timing was perfect. Once he grabbed the lead, he never let it go.
Rowe’s win adds momentum to his season and confidence to his team. This milestone didn’t just showcase driving skill—it symbolized resilience and representation on one of racing’s biggest stages.
The Bigger Picture: Representation and Opportunity
Rowe’s victory matters beyond racing. As the first Black driver to win in Indy NXT, he’s opened the door wider for others. His presence challenges the status quo in a sport that’s still growing in diversity.
IndyCar’s official site confirmed this is only Rowe’s second season in the NXT series. His steady growth shows that with support and opportunity, more diverse talents can thrive in racing.
Meanwhile, O’Ward Shines in NTT Series Race
While Rowe stole the spotlight in Indy NXT, Pato O’Ward claimed victory in the NTT series Synk 275 race. O’Ward outpaced heavyweights like Josef Newgarden, Will Power, and Alex Palou to secure his first win of the season.
The race saw five lead changes in the final 43 laps. Newgarden had dominated early, leading the first 232 laps, but O’Ward surged ahead when it counted most.
IndyCar’s Season Takes Shape
O’Ward is now the third driver to win an NTT series race this season. Before his victory, Palou and Kyle Kirkwood had dominated, winning the first nine races. Palou, who won the Indianapolis 500, remains on top of the standings, with Kirkwood in second.
Scott Dixon’s win at Mid-Ohio earlier in July showed the tides may be shifting. Still, Palou holds a commanding lead by over 100 points.
The Iowa weekend wraps up with the Farm to Finish 275, airing Sunday at 1 p.m. on FOX59.
