Ghana has welcomed its first world-class automobile museum, and it’s already making headlines. Entrepreneur and media mogul Dr. Osei Kwame Despite officially unveiled the museum on Sunday, June 1, 2025.
Located in East Legon, Accra, this new museum is the third of its kind on the African continent, joining Morocco and South Africa.
A New Landmark for Car Lovers and Tourists in Ghana
The grand opening was a beautiful ceremony led by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. Business leaders, celebrities, politicians, and royals gathered to witness history being made.
Built for car enthusiasts, families, and anyone curious about history and innovation, the museum showcases some of the world’s most iconic cars. From vintage classics to modern luxury models, every vehicle on display has a unique story.
“This is not just a place to see cars. It’s a space to feel inspired, to spark imagination, and to show that world-class experiences belong here in Ghana too,” the museum shared.
From Childhood Dreams to a Historic Museum
Dr. Osei Kwame Despite’s love for cars started when he was a child. His simple admiration for beautiful cars grew into a passion for collecting some of the rarest and most luxurious automobiles in the world.
This museum is the first time the public will experience Dr. Despite’s personal collection. It marks decades of dedication, turning a boyhood dream into a national treasure.
His collection now stands as a symbol of excellence, innovation, and pride for Ghanaians and the entire African continent.
Driving Growth in Ghana’s Tourism Industry
Besides being a personal passion project, the Despite Automobile Museum is expected to boost tourism in Ghana. It offers a unique attraction that invites both locals and international visitors to explore the country’s growing creative and luxury industries.
The museum’s carefully curated experience takes guests on a journey through the evolution of cars — from vintage metal beauties to high-end performance machines. It promises an unforgettable adventure for people of all ages.
The venue will soon open its doors to the public, welcoming visitors from around the world.
A Legacy Beyond Media and Business
While Dr. Osei Kwame Despite is widely known for building one of Ghana’s largest media empires, this new venture highlights his love for culture, history, and community development.
As the founder of Despite Company Limited and co-founder of United Television (UTV) and Best Point Savings and Loans, Dr. Despite has long been a key figure in business and media. This museum adds another chapter to his impactful legacy.
It shows that with vision and determination, world-class attractions and experiences can thrive in Africa, celebrating both its history and future.
