A Historic First for Macon, Mississippi

Macon, Mississippi has just witnessed a powerful moment in history. Freddie Lee Poindexter, Jr. is now the city’s first Black mayor and the youngest ever to hold the position. His election signals a new era of leadership grounded in faith, unity, and community service.

The Noxubee County Democratic Party officially certified the results, confirming Poindexter’s win. He is set to take office on July 1, 2025, starting with a private ceremony that will include celebrity guests. A public inauguration event will follow soon after, welcoming all Macon residents.

Community Support Fueled Poindexter’s Victory

Poindexter’s campaign was powered by a strong grassroots team and deep community involvement. His “Boots on the Ground” approach helped voters feel seen, heard, and valued throughout the election process.

Campaign Manager Margaret Yates led efforts on the ground, while Business Manager Darold Mitchell kept spirits high with prayer and encouragement. Poindexter also recognized many others who gave their time, helped with transportation, or assisted voters on Election Day.

“I feel so blessed at this time; this really feels like a dream,” Poindexter said. “There were many obstacles thrown my way, but I kept the faith and remained focused on the main goal: to keep God first and run a fair and clean campaign.”

Faith, Service, and a Vision for Progress

Poindexter’s journey is one of perseverance and deep spiritual grounding. He often spoke about trusting God and staying true to his values during the campaign. That message clearly resonated with voters, many of whom were looking for honest, community-minded leadership.

He now plans to work hand-in-hand with the Board of Aldermen and every city department. His main goal: to build a city everyone in Macon can be proud to call home.

“I am excited about getting started,” Poindexter said. “We are Better Together.”

Looking Ahead to a United Macon

As Poindexter prepares for office, residents are hopeful. His leadership promises transparency, service, and progress. The message of his campaign, Macon Matters: Your Voice, Your City, Your Mayor, remains more than a slogan—it’s now a promise to fulfill.

Poindexter’s win is not just about breaking new ground. It’s about building something lasting—where collaboration, faith, and community lead the way.
