Hopkinsville Non-Profit Revives County’s First Black High School as Community Hub for Growth and Hope

Local Non-Profit Receives Historic Black School Building

Men 2 Be, a Hopkinsville-based non-profit, now owns Christian County’s first and only Black high school, Crispus Attucks High School. The building was gifted to the group by the school’s alumni association for just one dollar in February 2024.

The organization, founded in 2020, supports boys aged 7 to 18. Their goal is to help them grow through mentorship, life skills, and character-building. Now, with the building in their care, Men 2 Be plans to create a space that serves everyone in the county.

Plans to Transform School into Community Hub

Crispus Attucks High School has been empty for years. Men 2 Be wants to bring it back to life—not just as a memory of the past, but as a center for the future.

Their vision includes an emergency shelter, food pantry, recreational space, and rooms for business meetings and community events. The group hopes the center will support growth, learning, and connection for residents of all ages.

Reviving a Space That Once Gave Hope to Black Students

Originally opened in 1916, Crispus Attucks High School served Black students during segregation. At a time when education access was limited, this school gave students a safe place to learn and grow.

Men 2 Be aims to honor that legacy. “We’re not just rebuilding a building. We’re rebuilding hope,” said a representative from the group. Their project gives new purpose to a place that once stood for strength during hard times.

Fundraising Goals and Community Support

To complete phase one of the renovation, Men 2 Be needs to raise $1 million. Planned repairs include roof work ($95,000), interior remodeling ($12,800), plumbing and electrical repairs ($20,000), and other essential upgrades.

The goal is to open the facility in Fall 2026. Local support and donations will help make that dream a reality. The organization is working hard to rally support from the community and beyond.

How to Support the Crispus Attucks Project

Men 2 Be will host a benefit concert and fundraiser on April 26, from 5–7 p.m., at Bridge of Hope Fellowship in Hopkinsville. Admission is free, and food will be served. The Nashville Community Gospel Choir will perform at the event.

You can also support this project by donating through Zelle or PayPal at [email protected], or by mailing checks to P.O. Box 64, Hopkinsville, KY 42241. Every dollar brings the community one step closer to restoring a place of pride and progress.
