Jamie Roberts to Host Prestigious PitchBLACK Awards in Harlem
Harlem’s own Jamie Roberts will host the 2025 PitchBLACK Awards, marking a powerful moment for Black media and entertainment. Roberts is a co-owner of Comedy in Harlem, the first Black-owned comedy club in the neighborhood.
He will emcee the high-energy ceremony on Thursday, May 1. The event wraps up Black Public Media’s two-day PitchBLACK Forum, where storytellers and tech creatives pitch their projects for a chance to win a total of $230,000 in grants.
“This is huge not just for Harlem, but for every Black creator dreaming big,” said a PitchBLACK rep.

For the first time ever, the PitchBLACK Forum and Awards will be held at the Apollo Stages at the Victoria. It’s part of the legendary Apollo Theatre’s recent expansion, and only blocks away from Black Public Media’s (BPM) Harlem headquarters.
BPM Executive Director Leslie Fields-Cruz shared the excitement:
“This spectacular venue opened just last March. We’re thrilled to bring our signature event uptown.”
This move highlights Harlem’s role in Black media, art, and culture — and celebrates its legacy of storytelling innovation.
