Morgan Price, the standout gymnast from Fisk University, has made history as the first HBCU athlete to win back-to-back USA Gymnastics All-around championships. The phenom successfully defended her title at the 2025 USA Championships in Shreveport, Louisiana, which began on April 11.
Price dominated the competition with an impressive all-around score of 39.350. Her stellar performance included a remarkable 9.900 on the balance beam, which led that event during the all-around stage. This achievement adds to her growing legacy as one of collegiate gymnastics’ most groundbreaking athletes.
Historic Back-to-Back Championship Titles Showcase HBCU Excellence
Price’s second consecutive national title represents a significant milestone for HBCU athletics. She has become not just a champion but a pioneer as the first gymnast from a Historically Black College or University to capture multiple national championships.
Her journey to this historic achievement was documented in a recent short film produced with Togethxr, a women’s sports-focused lifestyle platform. In the film, Price explained her decision to de-commit from the University of Arkansas in favor of Fisk University.
“The decision that I made was bigger than just gymnastics,” Price shared in the documentary. “It was also about making history and being an inspiration to younger black girls who want to become an HBCU gymnast as well. We’re representing our culture and at the same time doing gymnastics.”
Perfect 10 Score Highlights Groundbreaking Season Performance
Beyond her championship defense, Price achieved another remarkable feat earlier this season. She earned a perfect 10 score for her routine on the uneven bars, marking another historic first for HBCU gymnastics.
This perfect score came during Black History Month, adding special significance to the accomplishment. Price celebrated this moment on social media, writing, “Making HISTORY during Black History Month, it doesn’t get much better than this.”
Her excellence extends across all events. During the championship, she scored 9.85 on the uneven bars, securing a tie for second place. Additionally, she earned scores of 9.825 in floor exercise and 9.775 in vault, showcasing her exceptional all-around capabilities.
HBCU Representation Takes Center Stage in Elite Gymnastics
Price’s continued success has brought unprecedented attention to HBCU gymnastics programs. Her performances have demonstrated that excellence in the sport exists beyond traditional powerhouse schools.
“To be an athlete at an HBCU, it just means everything to me,” Price stated, emphasizing the importance of representation in collegiate gymnastics. Her commitment to Fisk University has helped spotlight the talents of athletes at HBCUs across all sports.
The champion gymnast’s journey continues as she pursues even more accolades. She entered individual events competition beginning April 13, aiming to add more gold medals to her already impressive collection and further cement her legacy in collegiate gymnastics.
