Dr. Kudakwashe Tagwirei Makes History with Global Award of Excellence
Dr. Kudakwashe Tagwirei, CEO of Sakunda Holdings, has become the first black recipient of the Global Award of Excellence. The prestigious honor was presented by the General Conference of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church at Solusi University.
This award celebrates individuals who have made a significant global impact on education. Dr. Tagwirei was recognized for his work through the Bridging Gap Foundation, which has transformed 63 schools in Zimbabwe. His efforts include providing tractors, farming tools, and infrastructure improvements.
At Solusi University alone, projects worth over $7 million have been completed. These include irrigation systems, borehole drilling, and upgrades to water and sewer systems.
Transforming Education Across Continents
Dr. Lisa Hardy, Director of Education for the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, praised Dr. Tagwirei’s global influence. She highlighted his contributions to educational institutions in Africa, Asia, the Americas, and Europe.
“Dr. Tagwirei’s work goes beyond borders,” said Dr. Hardy. “His vision for education as a tool for transformation has inspired countless communities worldwide.”
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Tagwirei emphasized the importance of sustainability and excellence in education. “Education should empower communities and ensure institutions thrive for generations,” he stated.
Beyond Education: Contributions to Health and Community
Dr. Tagwirei’s impact extends beyond education. He has significantly supported Zimbabwe’s health sector, including funding Arundel Hospital in Harare. The hospital has provided free medical services to over 500,000 people.
Additionally, he has donated more than $3.5 million to six church conferences. These contributions have helped improve healthcare and community services across the country.

Dr. Tagwirei’s recognition is a testament to his dedication to improving lives. Through his foundation and personal contributions, he has set a new standard for philanthropy and leadership.
