Ziva Postpartum Retreat is North Carolina’s First Black-Owned Sanctuary Supporting New Moms with Luxurious Care

North Carolina has welcomed its first Black-owned, full-service postpartum retreat, Ziva Postpartum Retreat. Located in Uptown Charlotte, this luxurious sanctuary opened its doors on February 1, 2025, offering new moms a haven to rest, recover, and reconnect.

Founded by Selena Williams and Lauren Hall, Ziva is the third Black-owned overnight postpartum retreat in the U.S. and the first of its kind in North Carolina.

A Luxurious Sanctuary for New Moms

Ziva Postpartum Retreat provides a blend of expert care and luxury amenities. New mothers can enjoy around-the-clock nursery access, lactation consulting, postpartum doula care, and wellness classes like meditation and yoga. The retreat also offers a mother’s lounge, daily meals, and snacks. For those seeking extra pampering, add-on services include postnatal massages, manicures, and pedicures.

“It’s been nearly a year of planning, and we’re thrilled to bring this experience to life,” said co-founder Selena Williams. “After experiencing gaps in postpartum care myself, I wanted to create a space that offers the support and luxury every new mom deserves.”

Addressing a Growing Need for Postpartum Care

Postpartum retreats have gained popularity in Europe and Asia, and the concept is now making waves in the U.S. The first American postpartum retreat opened in New York in 2022, responding to rising maternal and infant mortality rates. Ziva Postpartum Retreat joins this movement, offering a safe space for mothers to heal and bond with their babies.

North Carolina, ranked 11th in infant mortality, particularly benefits from this initiative. Ziva is one of only four Black-owned postpartum retreats in the country, making it a groundbreaking addition to the state.

A Dream Realized for Founders and Families

Originally planned for Charlotte’s SouthPark area, Ziva relocated to Uptown Charlotte due to high demand. The retreat offers flexible stay packages, ranging from three to seven nights or more. Reservations are recommended after 25 weeks of gestation.

“We dreamed of creating a space where mothers can rest, recover, and feel nurtured,” said co-founder Lauren Hall. “Now, we’re proud to make that dream a reality for others.”

Comprehensive Care for All Postpartum Parents

Ziva Postpartum Retreat is inclusive, welcoming all postpartum parents, including adoptive parents, intended parents through surrogacy, and gestational carriers. Each stay includes daily meals, childcare, postpartum classes, and access to a nursery and luxurious lounge.

Additional services, such as postpartum therapy, belly-binding, and spa treatments, are available for an extra fee. Ziva has also partnered with The Peds MD LLC, a local pediatric concierge service, to provide on-site baby care.

A New Chapter in Postpartum Support

Ziva Postpartum Retreat is more than a luxury destination; it’s a community hub for new moms. By combining expert care with a nurturing environment, Ziva is setting a new standard for postpartum support in North Carolina and beyond.
