A Lifetime of Breaking Barriers
Pace’s journey as a trailblazer began long before his mayoral campaign. In 1966, he became the first Black student to integrate an elementary school in Henderson. This early experience shaped his resilience and determination to create positive change.

From Educator to Mayor: A Community’s Vision
Pace never imagined he would become mayor. However, those around him saw his potential long before he did. While working as a teacher and coach, Pace shared his aspirations with a colleague, Ms. McManus.
“She said, ‘Oh, you’ll do fine. You’ll run for three terms. In your fourth term, you will be mayor,’” Pace recalled. “How she knew that, I do not know.” Her prediction came true, proving the community’s faith in his leadership abilities.
A Mayor Focused on Listening and Leading
As mayor, Pace is committed to listening to the concerns of Henderson’s residents. He believes open communication is key to addressing the city’s needs. “I’m glad to talk with anybody concerning their matters to make citizens’ lives better here in Henderson,” he said.
