Clayton County, Georgia – Dr. Alieka Anderson-Henry has officially been sworn in as the first African-American female chairwoman of the Clayton County Board of Commissioners. The historic event took place on December 31, 2024, marking a significant milestone in the county’s leadership. Dr. Anderson-Henry, known for her passion for education and community advocacy, brings over two decades of experience in public service to her new role.

Dr. Anderson-Henry’s inauguration ceremony will be held on January 3, 2025, at the Clayton County Performing Arts Center. The event marks the beginning of a new era for the county, where she will lead efforts to make every voice heard and ensure equal opportunities for all residents. “This victory is not just mine, it belongs to every person who believes in the promise of rising up and moving Clayton County forward,” she said. “Now, the real work begins.”

She has previously served as the District 1 Commissioner and as a member of the Clayton County Board of Education, where she helped the school district regain its accreditation.

She also has a wealth of experience in education, having worked as a teacher, assistant principal, and literacy coach.
Holding an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Agrosy University, Dr. Anderson-Henry is known for her innovative approach to governance and her focus on providing strong leadership in education and public service. Her background and vision for Clayton County’s growth make her a respected leader in the community.
Inaugural Events and Community Engagement
Dr. Anderson-Henry’s inauguration week will be filled with meaningful events that reflect her commitment to serving the community. On January 3, 2025, she will host the Inaugural Ecumenical Service at First Baptist Church of Jonesboro. Following this, she will organize a Day of Service with a Coat Giveaway and Family Fun Day at Skate Zone in Morrow on January 4, 2025. The week will conclude with a Worship Experience on January 5, 2025, at Travelers Rest Missionary Baptist Church in Morrow.
