Byron Williams officially began his journey as Holly Hill’s police chief in July 2024. This milestone marked a new chapter for both the city and Williams himself, as he became the first Black person to hold this position in Holly Hill’s history.

With 25 years of law enforcement experience in Daytona Beach, Williams brought a wealth of expertise and dedication to his new role.

A Career Built on Leadership and Integrity

Williams served the Daytona Beach Police Department for over two decades, starting in 1999. Throughout his career, he climbed the ranks, holding roles such as captain of the Criminal Investigations Unit and Emergency Operations Manager.

Reflecting on his career, Williams shared his disbelief at how far he had come:

“Transitioning from a traffic control officer to a police chief is something I never imagined.”

His leadership stood out during the selection process for Holly Hill’s new police chief. City Manager Joseph Forte, alongside a panel of local police chiefs, unanimously approved Williams, praising him as the standout candidate.

Addressing Challenges with Vision

Williams stepped into his new position following a turbulent period in the Holly Hill Police Department. Recent investigations had uncovered workplace issues, leading to resignations and suspensions of key personnel. Williams emphasized the importance of rebuilding trust and unity within the department.

“My first priority is meeting with every officer,” he said. “I need to understand their needs and ensure they feel supported.”

Williams also expressed a commitment to transparency, accountability, and integrity. He aims to foster a nurturing environment for his officers while focusing on community engagement.

Connecting with Holly Hill Residents

Williams’ appointment brings fresh energy to Holly Hill. He plans to implement new ideas while staying true to his philosophy of making things better.

To the residents, he delivered a heartfelt message:

“I want them to know I’m here to lead with integrity, transparency, and accountability. I’m committed to building a safer and stronger community together.”
