Derrick Henry, Daytona Beach’s first Black male mayor, will serve another term after running unopposed in the 2024 election. His continued leadership builds on over a decade of transformative contributions to the city.

Championing Economic Growth and Community Development
Under Mayor Henry’s direction, Daytona Beach has experienced remarkable economic and community advancements. Unemployment rates have dropped, property values have risen, and commercial development is thriving.
Private investment projects have transformed the city’s skyline, while Daytona Beach has emerged as a national leader in job creation. These achievements reflect Mayor Henry’s focus on fostering a business-friendly environment and improving residents’ quality of life.

A Lifetime of Service to Daytona Beach
Before becoming mayor, Derrick Henry dedicated himself to education and youth mentorship. As a teacher, assistant principal, and basketball coach at Mainland High School, he inspired students both in the classroom and on the court.
Recognized as Volusia County’s Social Studies “Teacher of the Year” in 1998-1999, he also led his basketball teams to three state championships. His passion for education continues through his work as the executive director of Step-by-Step Expressions, Inc., and as an assistant principal.
Henry’s academic achievements include degrees in philosophy, psychology, and educational leadership from Rollins College and Stetson University. His dedication to community service has earned him numerous awards, including a 2017 honorary doctorate from Bethune-Cookman University.
A Visionary Leader and Family Man
Derrick Henry is not only a public servant but also a devoted husband and father. He is married to Dr. Stephanie Henry, an international education consultant, and has three children: Michael, Derrick Jr., and Paisley.
