West Muhammad, a Remarkable Teen
At just 14 years old, West Muhammad has achieved a milestone. He is the youngest freshman ever at Coppin State University in Maryland. While many teens his age are starting high school, West is embarking on a college journey. His passion for learning and ambition to succeed have propelled him to this significant achievement.
West is not only a student; he is also pursuing a degree in cybersecurity engineering. His full scholarship makes this dream a reality. “I’ve always wanted to go to college and be on campus, have that experience that I’ve seen on TV and read in books,” West shared.
A Journey to College
West’s path to college has been unique. His mother taught him to read by age 3, and he began first grade when he was just 4. Throughout his education, he attended private schools, was homeschooled, and also experienced public schooling. This diverse background has prepared him well for college life.
Arriving at Coppin State, West faced some nervous moments. He recalled, “I was a little bit nervous because, although I was ready to come to school and just go through, it was a little interesting.” Many fellow students approach him, curious about how he got there. West realizes how special his situation is, saying, “This is rare.”
Impressive Academic Performance
Despite not living in the dorms, West is fully engaged in his studies. He is working hard and already earning A’s on his exams. His dedication has impressed teachers and staff at the university.
“Even at school, I used to remember I was the youngest out of my friend groups,” West said. This sense of being different does not deter him. Instead, he sees his youth as an advantage in showcasing what is possible for younger students.
Inspiring Others to Dream Big
West Muhammad understands the impact he can have on other young people. He emphasizes that his story is not just about personal success. “For me, it’s not so much as making history that’s important, but it’s really just giving an example to the other young 13-year-olds out there,” he explained.
His journey shows that age should not limit aspirations. He encourages peers to pursue their dreams, whether it involves college or starting a business. West hopes to inspire others to believe in themselves and aim high.
