Pittsburgh Yards Welcomes First Black-Owned Consumer Business Pink Pothos, Enriching Atlanta’s Historic Community with Green Innovation and Entrepreneurial Spirit

Pink Pothos Launches in Pittsburgh Yards

Pink Pothos, a Black-owned houseplant store, is now open at the Container Courtyard in Pittsburgh Yards. This vibrant business officially opened its doors on Saturday, October 26, 2024. Located in the heart of Southwest Atlanta’s historic Pittsburgh community, Pink Pothos aims to bring beauty and greenery to the area.

Lakeisha Jones founded Pink Pothos in 2022. She is excited to offer plant retail and advisory services to local residents and visitors alike. The store is housed in a custom-branded, bright pink shipping container, designed by architect Anthony “Tony” Pope, co-founder of the Black-owned architectural firm Atelier7. This thoughtful design blends sustainability and functionality, enhancing the community’s aesthetic.

Creating Community Connections

Pink Pothos is more than just a plant store. It represents a step toward revitalizing the Pittsburgh neighborhood. The Container Courtyard aims to connect local businesses with community members, providing them with food, retail, and various services. This initiative is especially important in one of Atlanta’s oldest historically Black communities.

In addition to Pink Pothos, the Container Courtyard will soon welcome Aztec Cycles. This Black-owned bicycle retail, rental, and repair shop has been serving the community since 2010. Their new location will be branded as Pittsburgh Bicycle Rentals (PBR), further promoting local entrepreneurship.

Future Growth at Pittsburgh Yards

The Container Courtyard plans to house a total of nine consumer-facing businesses. Currently, it includes Fortas Homes, a company dedicated to affordable housing. The Nia Building, located within Pittsburgh Yards, will support all businesses with valuable development services. This collaborative environment encourages growth and innovation for local entrepreneurs.

“We are thrilled to welcome these businesses into the Container Courtyard at Pittsburgh Yards,” said Chantell Glenn, senior associate responsible for development. “We invite the community to come discover what these businesses have to offer as they open.”

Chantell highlighted the plan to fill the courtyard with additional businesses over the coming months. Future openings will include a Black-owned coffee house, a skincare company, and more dining options. This ongoing effort aims to enhance the community and its offerings.

A Bright Future for Pittsburgh Community

Pink Pothos is a shining example of how local businesses can beautify and enrich a community. By providing access to plants and expert advice, Lakeisha Jones hopes to inspire residents to connect with nature and each other. With more businesses set to open soon, the Container Courtyard is poised to become a vibrant hub for the Pittsburgh community.
