The 25-year-old gymnast capped off her impressive run by claiming the gold medal in the floor exercise, solidifying her status as a true trailblazer for Black excellence in the sport.
Andrade’s journey to the top has been marked by incredible resilience and determination. Hailing from Guarulhos, Brazil, she was raised by her mother Rosa Andrade, who managed the upbringing of eight children.

Overcoming Adversity: Andrade’s Triumphant Comeback
Despite facing significant challenges, including three anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries within four years, Andrade refused to be deterred.
Each recovery demanded at least six months, and her career appeared in jeopardy as she withdrew from major competitions between 2015 and 2019.
However, Andrade’s unwavering spirit and dedication to her craft allowed her to return to peak fitness, setting the stage for her historic performance in Paris.
A Legacy of Greatness: Andrade’s Olympic Dominance
Andrade’s achievements in Paris 2024 solidify her place as the most decorated Brazilian Olympian and gymnast of all time. Her six-medal haul, including a gold, two silvers, and a bronze, surpasses the previous records held by her compatriots. Andrade’s success has inspired young Black gymnasts around the world, proving that with hard work and resilience, anything is possible.
“I am happy, grateful to everyone. Grateful for my work team, my coach, my family, and everyone who joined me in this journey. It wasn’t easy, I wasn’t sure if I was going to make it. I am extremely proud to be the athlete with the most medals won in the Olympic Games in Brazil,” said Rebeca Andrade.
A Triumph for Brazil and Latin America
Andrade’s triumph in the floor exercise, where she defeated the legendary Simone Biles of the United States, is a testament to her determination and skill.
Her performance has not only cemented her status as the greatest gymnast in Brazilian history but has also solidified her position as one of the most accomplished Latin American athletes of all time.
