Tevin Goodridge DaSilva Makes History as First Vincentian-Born Male Pilot for American Airlines Flight to St. Vincent

Tevin Goodridge DaSilva etched his name in aviation history on Wednesday, July 17, 2024. The First Officer became the first Vincentian-born male to pilot an American Airlines flight to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

Historic Landing: A Milestone for Vincentian Aviation

DaSilva’s flight touched down at Argyle International Airport, marking a significant moment for the Caribbean nation. Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves and other officials welcomed him upon arrival.

The momentous occasion was celebrated with a ceremonial gift-giving. DaSilva received tokens to commemorate this milestone in Vincentian aviation history.

From Dream to Reality: DaSilva’s Journey to the Cockpit

DaSilva’s path to this historic flight began a month ago. Upon learning about the trip, he requested to be part of the flight crew.

“It’s a great feeling to know today I can help her back in the same way she’s helped me,” DaSilva said. He referred to his mother, who will be a passenger on his return flight.

Family Ties: A Personal Touch to Professional Achievement

The return flight holds special significance for DaSilva. His mother and younger sister will be passengers, marking their first time flying with him as pilot.

DaSilva expressed his excitement, stating, “Although it isn’t E T Joshua Airport it still is an amazing honor to get the opportunity to come full circle and fly back into my land where it all started.”

Breaking Barriers: Vincentian Representation in International Aviation

DaSilva’s achievement follows another recent milestone in Vincentian aviation. In 2023, Rochell Roache-Lanza became the first female American Airlines pilot of Vincentian heritage to land at Argyle International Airport.

These accomplishments highlight the growing representation of Vincentians in international aviation. They serve as inspiration for future generations of pilots from the Caribbean nation.

National Pride: Government and Airport Celebrate DaSilva’s Achievement

Argyle International Airport publicly congratulated DaSilva on his historic flight. This recognition underscores the importance of his achievement to the nation.

Prime Minister Gonsalves, speaking about a similar milestone, emphasized its significance: “It’s a moment of great pride for the country. It may appear to be a small thing but it is of great symbolic significance.”
