From Bronx Rapper to Wine Connoisseur
Jermaine Stone’s journey from the streets of the Bronx to becoming a trailblazer in the wine industry is nothing short of remarkable. Born and raised in the heart of New York City’s vibrant hip-hop culture, Stone initially envisioned a career as a rapper.
“I grew up submerged in Hip Hop. I started rapping as young as twelve years old,” Stone shared. “It was to the point that even my parents thought I would skip college to become a rapper.”
However, a temporary job at Zachys Wine Auctions sparked an unexpected passion for the world of fine wine.
Shattering Glass Ceilings: A Pioneering Career
Stone’s natural charm, charisma, and keen understanding of logistics propelled him through the ranks at Zachys Wine Auctions. He quickly rose to become the Logistics Manager, overseeing the transport of $60 million worth of fine wine annually.
In 2013, Stone took a significant leap, becoming one of the founding Directors of Wally’s Auctions, a subsidiary of a major Los Angeles wine retailer.
“He used talents and expertise in auctioneering, operations, and business development to co-create and implement the full client experience, including the auction website and online bidding application; live simulcasted auction bidding; warehousing of collections for sale; and distribution and fulfillment of client purchases,” a source revealed.
In this role, Stone made history as the first Black commercial auctioneer and the first Black wine auction director, shattering glass ceilings in an industry historically lacking diversity.
Blending Cultures: Wine and Hip-Hop
After leaving Wally’s, Stone’s love for wine and hip-hop culture converged, leading him to found Cru Luv Selections, a New York-based wine branding and marketing firm dedicated to blending the best elements of these two worlds.
Through his unique perspective and understanding of both realms, Stone has become a bridge, introducing the world of fine wine to hip-hop artists and enthusiasts while simultaneously showcasing the richness of hip-hop culture to the wine industry.
A Trailblazer and Inspiration
Jermaine Stone’s remarkable journey from the Bronx to the pinnacles of the wine industry serves as a testament to the power of passion, perseverance, and embracing one’s unique identity.
As the first Black commercial auctioneer and the first Black wine auction director, Stone has paved the way for increased diversity and representation in an industry historically lacking in inclusivity.
His ability to seamlessly blend the cultures of wine and hip-hop has not only enriched the experiences of enthusiasts in both worlds but has also inspired countless individuals to pursue their dreams, regardless of their backgrounds or the perceived barriers they may face.
