Rob “ProBlak” Gibbs has left an indelible mark on the streets of Boston through his powerful murals and community-driven art.
As a graffiti artist and co-founder of Artists For Humanity, Gibbs has been a cornerstone in championing arts education for over three decades.
“The landscape of Boston became my art gallery, and using graffiti, I immortalized my community’s stories and history,” Gibbs said, reflecting on his artistic ethos.
Prestigious Dewey Square Commission
In a groundbreaking achievement, Gibbs became the first Black and Boston-based artist commissioned to paint the iconic Dewey Square on the Rose Kennedy Greenway.
His renowned “Breathe Life” mural series has garnered widespread acclaim, earning him recognition as one of Boston’s 100 Most Influential People in 2022.
Honoring a Local Legend
Gibbs’ impact on the city was further solidified when former Mayor Martin J. Walsh proclaimed a day in his honor three years ago.
The “Rob ‘ProBlak’ Gibbs Day” celebrated his dedication to powerful community-forward imagery, arts education, and personal connection.
In addition to the prestigious Dewey Square commission, Gibbs has received numerous accolades, including two Best of Boston Awards for Best Artist and Best Muralist.
His contributions have garnered both local and national recognition, solidifying his status as a trailblazer in the street art and mural scene.
