Soaring to New Heights: A Trailblazer’s Journey
Zoey Williams, a 27-year-old Ontario native, has etched her name in aviation history as Air Canada’s first Black female pilot to take the controls of a Boeing 777. Her remarkable achievement shatters barriers and serves as an inspiration to aspiring aviators worldwide.
“If you have a burning desire to do something, don’t bury it. Keep your focus, build your networks, share your goals and show your passion in everything you do. That’s how you can end up doing things you love day in and day out,” Williams said.
Overcoming Obstacles with Determination
Despite growing up in a pilot’s household and traveling the world from a young age, Williams initially harbored doubts about pursuing a career in aviation due to the unpredictable schedules.
However, a terrifying introductory flight on a Cessna as a teenager proved to be a turning point, igniting her desire to conquer her fears and embrace flight training.
A Multifaceted Journey to Success
Williams’s path to success was paved with diverse experiences and challenges. After earning her wings as a certified flight instructor by the age of 19, she navigated various roles in the industry, including flying the Beechcraft 1900 in challenging conditions and serving as a First Officer for Sky Regional Airlines and Air Transat.
Even the COVID-19 pandemic failed to deter her ambitions. During this period, she pursued an MBA in Aviation from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University while engaging in entrepreneurial ventures, such as starting a short-term rental business and flying a Boeing 737 for Flair Airlines.
Achieving Milestones and Inspiring Others
Williams’s journey eventually led her to Air Canada, where she achieved her historic milestone as the airline’s first Black female Boeing 777 pilot.
Her accomplishments have garnered well-deserved recognition, including being featured in videos by Air Canada and the Elevate Aviation 2023 Women of Inspire, as well as being named among the Top 20 Under 40 by Wings Magazine.
Beyond her aviation career, Williams is a multi-talented individual, showcasing her musical skills on various platforms and preparing to release her book, “Go Where You Belong,” aimed at inspiring young minds to pursue their dreams.
