Carrying On His Father’s Legacy
David Hannah grew up with a profound example of leadership and barrier-breaking from his father – the first African American police officer and voter in Wrens, GA. Now Mayor Hannah is adding his own historic accomplishment as the town’s recently sworn-in first Black mayor.
“It ain’t about me, it’s about the people, and stuff. And that’s what I wanna do, I just wanna serve and serve ’em right,” remarked the new Mayor about carrying on his father’s legacy of community service.
Before his mayoral milestone, Hannah himself spent many years protecting Wrens residents by serving as the city’s first Black chief of police. He aims to continue that diligent public service in his new role.
Bringing Hope and Progress
As part of his vision for Wrens, Mayor Hannah wants to provide more entertainment options along with a much-needed community center located in a former middle school. He also hopes to attract businesses and housing to retain more young locals.
Reducing crime rates stands out as another top priority for Hannah’s administration. But above all, the groundbreaking Mayor wants citizens to feel the forward momentum: “the future is full of hope.”
While acknowledging doubts about his leadership from a small minority, Hannah remains fixed on uplifting his hometown: “Check with the people. The people decided when they elected me.”
The majority of Wrens residents placed their trust in David Hannah to take their city where it’s never gone before. Now he eagerly shoulders that responsibility to bring positive change as the first African American leader in the town’s history.
