Traumatic Accident Sparks Tequila Dream
In a remarkable story of passion and determination, Washington D.C. government analyst Tiffany Capri Hainesworth has smashed conventions by launching luxury tequila brand TCapri – making history as the first and only Black woman to own a tequila company.
Her journey began after a devastating 2012 car crash left her with a traumatic brain injury. As Hainesworth recovered and reassessed her priorities, she decided to pursue her lifelong dream of starting her own spirits business.
Battling Pandemic Disruptions With Grit
After extensive research and collaborating with Mexican tequila farmers, Hainesworth launched TCapri in January 2021, right as COVID-19 disruptions ravaged global supply chains. As bottle shortages swept the alcohol industry, TCapri was forced off shelves – a crushing setback after making history.
Pivoting With Agility Amidst Setbacks
Yet, displaying remarkable resilience, Hainesworth swiftly pivoted to creating tasting boxes and pushing her award-winning blanco tequila. Through sheer perseverance, she managed to rebuild momentum.
Her ability to handle major challenges spotlights the particular obstacles facing minority women entrepreneurs compared to men. “Absolutely, it’s easier for men,” Hainesworth asserted, referencing ingrained stigma around assertive women.
Smashing Barriers With Authenticity
By powering through barriers with authenticity, Hainesworth aims to inspire young girls to see everything is possible with “focus” and “determination”. She hopes to eventually distribute TCapri globally, driven by the work ethic of her grandfather.
In a male-dominated industry, Hainesworth’s triumph in overcoming staggering odds, as both a Black entrepreneur and female founder, makes her groundbreaking achievement all the more monumental.
