Long Journey From Part-Time Server to Managing Partner
Gretta Jackson’s career ascent at Outback Steakhouse has been 20 years in the making. She first joined a Southfield location as an 18-year-old part-time server while in college and needing to provide for her young daughter.
Through hard work and perseverance, Jackson incrementally moved up the ranks – from bartender to assistant manager to kitchen manager and beyond. Never giving up on her goal of ownership.
Making History in February
This past February, during Black History Month, Jackson achieved that ambitious goal. She became managing partner of an Outback Steakhouse franchise in Roseville, MI – the first Black woman in the Detroit area to reach this milestone.
Inspiring Other Black Women
Jackson shared news of her promotion on social media, quickly receiving an outpouring of support. For other Black women trying to advance their careers, Jackson has become a shining example of what can be achieved through dedication and time.
Her success is also inspiring her daughter, now an adult, who sees firsthand what determined women can accomplish. As Jackson states: “(My daughter thinks) if my mom can own her own Outback there is nothing she can’t do.”
Staying Connected to Her Roots
Despite her achievements, this 45-year-old trailblazer remains deeply connected to her Detroit roots. “My roots definitely run deep in Detroit,” Jackson says, reflecting on her journey that started with a part-time job almost 20 years ago.
Now through her new leadership role, she hopes to empower more women to boldly pursue their ambitions – just as she did.
