Expanding a Successful Atlanta Brewery Business to NC
Clarence Boston, owner of the popular Atlanta brewery Hippin’ Hops, is bringing his successful “brew-stillery” concept to Charlotte. Boston plans to open Hippin’ Hops Brewery & Distillery in Uptown Charlotte, marking the Queen City’s first-ever Black-owned distillery.
The Atlanta location both brews its own beer and distills its own liquor, a concept Boston calls a “brew-stillery.” With North Carolina already being Hippin’ Hops’ biggest customer base, Boston sees Charlotte as a natural fit for expansion.
New Venture Follows NoDa Brewery Launch
The Uptown opening builds on Boston’s growing Charlotte presence. They recently partnered with local bar owner Orlando Botero to launch Another Brewery in the NoDa neighborhood last month.
Operating multiple businesses and locations is no easy task, Boston acknowledges: “As an entrepreneur, it’s extremely hard and extremely time-consuming.” But great partners in Charlotte make it possible.
Brews, Cocktails, and Live Music in Store
The Hippin’ Hops Charlotte location will feature a 900 sq ft taproom and a spacious 3,000 sq ft outdoor area for live music.
Though there will be no kitchen, Boston plans to bring in local food trucks. The offerings will include Hippin’ Hops’ signature beers as well as craft cocktails and liquor including vodka, rum, gin, moonshine and whiskey.
Once open, Boston expects to produce 1,800 barrels of beer annually at the Charlotte site. The opening continues Charlotte’s rise as a major beer producer in North Carolina.
With a soft launch planned for Valentine’s Day and a grand opening set for February 16, Uptown residents will soon have a new neighborhood watering hole to call their own.
