Distinguished gynecologist Dr. Leonard Weather, Jr. recently made history as the first African American elected President of the Academy of Physicians in Clinical Research (APCR).
Extensive Medical Background
Dr. Weather brings over four decades of medical experience to his new leadership role. He earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Howard University and his MD from Rush Medical College in Chicago.
His clinical training includes completing his internship, residency, and fellowship in OB/GYN at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He has since become an esteemed practitioner in New Orleans and Shreveport.
Pioneering Pelviscopic Surgeon
As an active researcher focused on gynecological clinical trials, Dr. Weather has presented over 210 peer-reviewed papers and pioneered pelviscopic surgical techniques.
Most notably, he invented Optical Dissection Pelviscopy, a groundbreaking advancement in laparoscopic surgery that helps prevent organ injury. His expertise includes treating infertility, endometriosis, pelvic pain, and fibroids.
Accomplished Beyond Medicine
In addition to his stellar medical career, Dr. Weather is a professor, ordained minister, acclaimed author and poet, artist, and photographer.
His published works encompass inspirational poetry, an infertility handbook, and his latest book on endometriosis released in June 2023.
Leadership Across Medical Organizations
Dr. Weather has extensive leadership experience as Past President of the National Medical Association, Louisiana Medical Association, and New Orleans Medical Association.
He currently serves on Louisiana’s Board of Medical Examiners and as National President of the medical fraternity Chi Delta Mu.
